The Insurance Group is a family-owned, independent insurance agency in Clinton, Iowa. Three generations of Clinton families have trusted us with their homes, farms, and businesses.

1949
The agency opens its doors in Clinton, Iowa, serving families and farms along the Mississippi.
1982
Mark Mangler begins his insurance career after graduating from Clinton High School and Kirkwood Community College.
Early 1990s
Mark joins The Insurance Group as a partner, when the office was still on 2nd Street in downtown Clinton.
2007
The agency moves into its current home at 1050 N 18th St. Mike Determan joins the team the same year.
2017
Drew Mangler, Army veteran and former commercial underwriter, returns to Clinton to join the agency as owner and agent.

Mark Mangler

Mark is a graduate of Clinton High School and Kirkwood Community College. He began his insurance career in 1982 and joined The Insurance Group as a partner in the early 1990s, when the office was still on 2nd Street. He holds the LUTCF designation and is licensed in all lines of insurance in Iowa and Illinois. More than forty years in, he is regarded as something of a legend in eastern Iowa insurance circles, a description he would wave off.

Mark has been active on numerous community boards over the years, and you're as likely to find him volunteering at the Sawmill Museum as behind his desk. Away from the office he is a dedicated woodworker with a well-informed appreciation for Kentucky bourbon.

Drew Mangler

Drew grew up in Clinton, where a stretch as a Civil War reenactor gave him his first taste of military life. He graduated from Clinton High School in 2003 and served in the U.S. Army from 2003 to 2009 as a Cavalry Scout, including two combat deployments to Iraq. After his service, he earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa in 2013.

From 2014 to 2017 Drew worked in commercial lines underwriting at United Fire & Casualty in Cedar Rapids, experience that gives our commercial clients a real edge. He joined The Insurance Group in 2017 and is a past member of the Grow Clinton board.

Mike Determan

Mike joined The Insurance Group in 2007, the same year the agency moved into its current office, bringing 15 years of sales and customer-service experience with him. He is licensed in Iowa and Illinois for property, casualty, life, and health insurance.

Mike volunteers with several community organizations and is the agent many of our farm clients know best. Away from the office he is an avid fisherman, and a free weekend usually means a line in the water.
