Life, health, and Medicare supplement coverage

Life insurance is the promise that the people who depend on you will be okay. We'll help you size it, choose between term and permanent coverage, and make sure the beneficiaries are right.

What it covers

Term life covers a set number of years for the lowest cost, which suits a mortgage, young children, or a business loan. Whole life builds cash value and stays in force for your lifetime. Final expense policies are smaller and simpler, meant to cover a funeral and last bills. On the health side we write individual plans, Medicare supplements and Part D, and small-group coverage, including Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Disability income and long-term care round out the picture for people who want their plan to hold up if they cannot work.

Who it's for

New parents, homeowners with a mortgage, business owners with a partner or key employee, and anyone turning 65 and sorting out Medicare for the first time. Self-employed people and early retirees who need an individual health plan come to us for the same reason: someone local to explain the choices and handle the paperwork.

Why quote it with an independent agent

Sizing life insurance is mostly arithmetic: debts to clear, income to replace, and education to fund. We walk through it in one conversation, quote term and permanent side by side, and make sure the beneficiary designations match what you actually intend. For Medicare, we compare supplement plans and Part D options against your prescriptions rather than guessing.

Good to know

Term life is least expensive when you are young and healthy, and most term policies can be converted to permanent coverage later without a new medical exam, which is a useful option to keep. Beneficiary designations override a will, so they deserve a review after a marriage, a divorce, or a new child. Life insurance proceeds are generally received income-tax free by the beneficiary, which is one reason it remains the simplest way to leave a family whole.

Medicare has a calendar. Your initial enrollment window runs seven months around your 65th birthday, and Medicare supplement plans have their own six-month open enrollment that starts with Part B, during which no health questions are asked. Missing those windows can mean higher premiums or medical underwriting later, so the right time to talk is a few months before the birthday, not after.

What to bring for a quote

  • Dates of birth and basic health information for anyone to be covered, including tobacco use and current medications
  • Existing life or health policies, so we do not duplicate coverage
  • A rough idea of the coverage amount or the debts and income you want protected
  • For Medicare, your Medicare card with your Part A and Part B effective dates, and a list of prescriptions
