Farm

Farm and ranch insurance for eastern Iowa and western Illinois

A farm is a home, a business, and a fleet all at once, and the policy needs to reflect that. Our farm packages combine personal and farm property, liability, and equipment in a single, coordinated program.

What it covers

A farm package starts with the house and household contents, then adds the barns, machine sheds, and grain storage, the machinery and equipment either scheduled item by item or covered on a blanket limit, the livestock, and the trucks and trailers that move between fields. Farm liability covers injuries and damage arising from the operation, and pollution coverage addresses chemical and fuel exposures a standard policy leaves out. The point of one program is that nothing falls between two policies.

  • Farm dwelling and household contents
  • Barns, outbuildings, and grain storage
  • Machinery and equipment, scheduled or blanket
  • Livestock
  • Farm liability and pollution
  • Farm trucks, trailers, and autos

Who it's for

We work with family operations and large-scale agribusiness across eastern Iowa and western Illinois. That includes row-crop operations, livestock producers, and acreages where a few animals and a machine shed mean a homeowners policy no longer fits. If you are not sure which side of that line you are on, that is a good reason to call.

Why quote it with an independent agent

Farm coverage is where an agent who speaks the language of modern agribusiness earns their keep. We know what a blanket machinery limit should look like, when scheduling a combine makes more sense, and which carriers are competitive on grain storage and livestock in this part of the state.

Good to know

Machinery is where farm policies most often go wrong. Scheduled coverage lists each piece with its own value, which is precise but easy to let drift out of date after a trade. Blanket coverage sets one limit across everything, which is simpler and forgiving of a new purchase mid-year, at the cost of a little more premium. We will show you both and explain which one carriers price better for an operation your size.

Farm liability covers the operation, but a few things sit outside it: hired help needs workers' compensation, which liability does not replace, and any commercial activity beyond farming, such as custom work for neighbors, a roadside stand, or hosting the public on the property, should be disclosed so it is covered rather than excluded.
