Claims
Something happened. Here's what to do next.
Most carriers accept claims 24 hours a day. If you'd rather talk it through first (especially for anything that isn't an emergency), call us during office hours and we'll handle the reporting with you.
First, the basics
Four steps after a loss.
- Make sure everyone is safe.Call 911 for injuries, fire, or a crash blocking traffic. Get vehicles out of traffic if it's safe to do so.
- Document everything.Photos and video of damage, the scene, other vehicles, license plates, and insurance cards. Get names and numbers of any witnesses.
- Prevent further damage.Tarp a roof, shut off water, board a window. Keep receipts; reasonable emergency repairs are typically covered.
- Report the claim.Call your carrier's claims line below or call us at (563) 242-4000 during office hours. Have your policy number handy. It's on your ID card or declarations page.
What to have ready
- Policy number (on your ID card or declarations page)
- Date, time, and location of the loss
- What happened, in your own words
- Photos, police or fire report number if there is one
- Other party's name, phone, plate, and insurance (auto)

Common questions
Claims, answered plainly.
Should I call you or the insurance company?
Either works. For emergencies after hours, call the carrier's claims line directly; most answer 24/7, so the claim is opened immediately. For anything else, we're happy to report it with you and stay involved through the process.
Will filing a claim raise my rates?
It depends on the type of loss, your history, and the carrier. Not-at-fault accidents and weather claims are treated differently than at-fault losses. Call us before you file and we'll give you a straight answer for your situation.
How long does a claim take?
Simple auto glass or towing claims can resolve in a day. Property claims with contractor estimates usually take a few weeks. We'll help you keep things moving and follow up with the adjuster when needed.
Can I choose my own repair shop or contractor?
In Iowa and Illinois, yes. You have the right to choose. Carriers often have preferred networks with guaranteed work, which can be convenient, but the choice is yours.
Questions about a claim in progress?
We stay in the loop from first call to final check. If something feels stuck, call the office and let us follow up with the adjuster for you.
